BigTinCan is a product of its time. Today there is a unique intersection of events with the growth of the smart mobile phone, the democratization of telecommunications (telco) networks, and a slowing economy seeing consumer flight to cost savings.
BigTinCan has three core businesses:
- BigTinCan Connect - our global overlay telco network.
- BigTinCan Maps - our mapping service business that incorporates maps.bigtincan.com and tidymystreet.com
- BigTinCan Apps - our smartphone apps division that creates some of the world’s most loved smartphone apps.

David Keane - Founder, CEO and serial Australian telco entrepreneur - started a new business in 2007 that sought to bring high quality VOIP solutions to businesses. The new company replaced high cost, high maintenance PBX business telephone infrastructure with internet-based, business-grade calling quality from IP desk phones. The underlying back end technology involved the negotiation of wholesale interchange rates with a range of telco companies - essentially creating a virtual overlay telco company. David joined forces with a team of the world’s leading developers to develop the concept of marrying this back end capability with the smartphone. After significant market research, BigTinCan was born.
Since then BigTinCan has expanded to include our MAPS and APPS divisions that create innovative solutions on smartphones. Some of our leading apps including BuzzMe on BlackBerry, Mapper on Android, and BTC Connect on iPhone.
